Young boy in pastel on a tinted paper and I first draw in the basic features
of
the face and being fairly free in approach.

Once the features are roughly placed in I started off where
I felt I wanted to start and that was the eyebrows using a dark umber
colour.

I paint in a light pink wherever I see light areas like the
forehead, the brow of the nose and above the eyes.

I paint in light reds in the cheeks with a light cadmium red
and paint in a dark blue for the eyes. I model the nose with brown tones.

A lot has happened here I've blended a lot of the colour
into other colours with my finger and done more to the hair, eyes, nose and
mouth areas. Once you have the features placed in rather accurately all what
is needed is observation for the rest of the portrait.
Highlights
are added to the hair and cool blues are added to the sides of the face.
Lighter area are added to the eyes for reflection and colour. The shirt is
rather complicated not to draw but in shape and pattern so I simplify it
somewhat.
