Wet in Wet painting technique

Wet in Wet painting technique, painting wet paint into already wet paint beneath it, so first you paint a wet layer of paint on your paper and then using a wet darker or different colour paint into this wet paint, the colours or tones diffuse together forming interesting blends.

Blending
To blend watercolours on the paper, first load wet paint onto the paper then dip your brush into the water jar and give it a shake and apply your brush on the edge of the paint you have already applied to the paper.

Overpainting and Layers
Apply a layer of paint on your paper and leave it to dry, you then paint a darker colour on top of this layer, in this way you can build up layer upon layer to achieve form and depth. Some artists use this method very successfully and some artists prefer to go direct with colour without the need for layers. It all depends on what exactly you want to do.
