Submitting site to search engines is crucial if you want your website to be seen, if you don't submit your site to them your site simply wont be seen by anyone unless your lucky and the search engines pick up your site. The best search engines to be on are Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL as these are the most famous and which are used by millions of people. Lesser well know search engines are Altavista, Askjeeves, Metacrawler and Dogpile and there are loads of others, it is almost impossible to get on all of them and even more so on the first pages but getting yourself on the major engines you will be well on your way.
 

Google is the ultimate search engine to be on and before you submit your site to Google you should read there policy in submitting as there are certain rules to follow to do with spamming etc, you can read about this and more at Webmaster tools. Other search engines and directories to be on are yahoo which you would need to pay for if you want to be in there directory here... http://advertising.yahoo.com/. MSN is another good search engine or directory to be in although it is now called Bing and you can submit here...Bing. Dont worry if when you have submitted your site you dont see your site on there search engines straight away, some engines can take up to a month before you see your site.
