Sketching Clint Eastwood
which only took around 30 minutes and for my birthday I received what are
called
inscribe pastels and which I've never used before, they don't look really
good quality but I thought rather than give them away I would use them. This
is a good test for any artist because there is a limited palette of colours
here.

Although there aren't that many colours to choose from you have to
make do with what you've got so I may struggle to fined the colours needed but you
can always mix colours on the paper. Here the only colour I had for the
sides of his head was an orange colour which was way too orange for what I
wanted so I muted this down with a grey.

I'm trying to get all the colours and tones in like I would normally do
but already I'm struggling, I wanted a fairly dark warm brown red colour but
look what I had to use because there wasn't any suitable colour....a bright burnt orange which obviously needs tuning
down somewhat.

Here I've managed to mute the bright orange down a little with the grey I
used earlier. I'm trying to cover the entire face with colours that I see so
in go lights on the forehead and for the first time I did some blending with
my finger.

I define the eyes a little more here but I'm still struggling with
colours and I'm also having a little trouble with his nose but I know I will
get through this ok.

I altered his nose because I felt that it wasn't aligned right with
his eyes and it is good to use a pencil held vertically to align features. I
also put in a few highlights in the hair.
