Sketching a cat in charcoal and I first sketch out the cat in
pencil
and this is just a rough sketch to get the features relatively correct.
Here
I am using pencil measuring to make sure the features are correct, here I am
measuring the length of the ear from top to bottom and then to compare this
measurement with other features like the other ear or say from the top of
the head to the center of the eyes.

Once all the features are roughly in place I then start to make
everything more accurate.
I
then start to put in the darkest areas of tone leaving all lighter areas
untouched for now.
I
then concentrate on the features, getting the eyes in then the nose and
start to mould form and stroking the charcoal in the direction of the cats
fur if hair seems to be curving from left to right I use the charcoal in the
same direction.

Here I am using the putty rubber to bring out middle tone areas to show
the form like the nose , ear and under the mouth area.
