Simple watercolour technique and here you can see that his neck
looks
a little complicated and busy here but I'm not really bothered about this as
more of his face has to be painted in yet so hopefully this will balance
the portrait out more.

The bottom of the nose has a dark line underneath it and this helps
to give the nose a more three dimensional shape, notice the cool blue
under the nose. The dark line going across the middle of the top and
lower lip goes in and it is very important to observe both its curvature
and its tone of the mouth area.

The lower jaw is strengthened with a dark shadow colour has his is
jacket.

Here I could have left white paper for highlights in the eyes but
they didn't show that much in the photo so I didn't bother but if you
ever forget to leave white paper for highlights you can always scrape
the highlights out with a knife.

The finished sketch which took around 30 minutes to do and as I said
earlier the photo wasn't a really good one to work from and as you can
see here that he has only one collar which looks a little odd but I
think it is
always better to paint what you see.
