 Ronaldo
portrait demonstration and this is a fairly quick painting which shows
boldness. The initial drawing in is the first thing I do and here rather
roughly because when I paint in watercolour I want to be free and not
tied down by pencil lines.
I
start with watercolour using a mixture of burnt umber, yellow ochre and a
touch of ultramarine blue loaded with plenty of water.
A
lighter colour is used for his cheek and I rinse my brush in water, give it
a shake and soften the cheek area.
I
work a warmer colour into the cheek and neck areas and while the wash is
still wet I work in a darker ultramarine/burnt sienna colour into his chin.
With
ultramarine blue and burnt sienna with a touch of burnt umber I start to
paint in the hair.
I rinse my brush give it a shake and pull some of this colour into the
forehead area and at the same time with a darker mixture of the same colour
I work into the eye sockets.
