Here I start painting in the water and rocks with more colours and tones and it is important what to highlight and what to subdue. There are three main subjects here, one the large rocks in the foreground the waterfall in the middle distance and the watermill so these have to be highlighted or subdued accordingly.
The rock here being in the foreground has to show volume so a more bluey shadow is needed here.
The trees in the background and more detail is added with a variety of autumn colours and here the fence has painted in boldly.
As with the waterfall, the trickles and form of the water have to be painted in following its form and it is best to do this boldly and loosely not worrying too much if the lines and tones are too accurately described.
The final painting and the only thing I wish I had done here is to have put in a bit more shape variety in the foreground rocks on the right, they look a bit uniform here one stacked upon the other, maybe I could have made the bottom rock larger and brought it out more to the left for a bit more variety.
