Painting skies and background and here the sky colour used was ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson and to mute the culminating violet colour down
yellow ochre was used. The shadows underneath the clouds were painted in using a darker colour of this mixture again leaving the whites of the clouds alone.
All the shadow sides of the clouds have now been painted in and I started on the distant background using the same colour only darker.
The distant background has been laid in now and the trees in the middle distance go in using ultramarine blue and yellow ochre and just roughly painted in for now.
Already achieving distance with the greens of the trees and the blue grey background and sky I did a little twist here. Normally the foreground tree shadows would be a darker green than the middle distant trees but here I changed them into blue shadows just for contrast.
Middle tone greens go in and I painted this colour in throughout the painting, an hay field was painted in adding a contrasting colour, if this colour wasn't added then all the painting would be just cool blues and greens.
More blues and greens go in and castle hill has finally been painted in with a contrasting darker yet fader blue grey colour.
