Painting online with watercolours and here a portrait of a young woman
and
as usual I sketch in the main features before I put watercolour to
paper. The paper I am using is Bockingford 140Lb paper (300)grams) and
using a number 9 kolinsky sable brush and a smaller number 4 for
detailed work.

I mix cadmium red with yellow ochre and a touch of ultramarine blue and
start on her forehead, sometimes I start with the hair, it just depends
on how you feel at the time.

With more ultramarine in the mixture I carry on where I left off working
wet in wet. I did a little spattering in the background.

More colours are added to her face and an hairband in her hair is added
working wet in wet. See how the hair blends into the background on the
left here.

The front part of her hair is added and more spattering is added to the
background and my aim here is to blend some of the hair with the
background.

The eyebrows and eyelids are added using a smaller brush and more form
added to her nose and sometimes at this stage I work wet in wet and
leave some areas hard.
