More painting in of the lights have been added throughout the figure and I have started to blend in the light areas with my finger using a circular motion.
Here I have painted in a third colour which I don't normally do when painting a two colour figure painting but I just felt that I wanted this colour in the figure because it will add a warm reflection.
More of the lights have been added and blended in with my finger and you can see here that the brown tone of the paper shows through in the figure giving the whole composition unity. As the light is coming from the right here the actual highlights are on the right outside edge of her body where it is a thin highlight right next to the dark line around her arm as in this example.
Lights are now added to the hair and more of the chair has been added and this dark area around the chair brings out the right arm to us a little more giving it more volume.
Just one or two swift highlights on the chair is all that is needed here and I'm not really concentrating on the chair at all.
The finished figure sketch and the darks in the figure have all been made a tad darker and in turn this brings the lights out to us more, note that certain forms have only been suggested here like her feet and hand, although there were detail in her face here again it has only been suggested. This is just one way in painting a figure in pastel using just two or three colours and leaving the paper to show through here and there gives the whole painting harmony. I hope you have enjoyed this demonstration.
