Painting clouds into wet paint

Painting clouds into wet paint and now that my brush is quite dry I can Painting clouds into wet paintlift paint out and at the same time make cloud shapes by twisting my brush.

Starting on the trees in the background by mixing a ultramarine blue and a yellow ochre and I dabbed them in. Observe what is going on in a tree and follow its form with your brushstrokes and paint it in with a free dabbing motion.

More trees are added in the background being careful here not to go over the buildings.

Painting clouds into wet paint

The trees and bushes in front of the buildings go in and here I am painting a wet dark colour into the wet lighter colour (Wet in Wet) for the darks in the bushes.

The darks in the buildings go in next made with yellow ochre, burnt umber and a touch of ultramarine blue. Can you see the white line of white paper just above my brush tip in the photo, this was left purposely because the tree paint above it is still wet. If I touched the green paint of the tree with the roof paint it would bleed right into the roof. The bare white paper is perfectly acceptable in watercolour painting and lends a bit of sparkle.

Stronger darks are laid into the bushes in front of the buildings and this makes them recede more.
