Old car drawn in charcoal and I carry on sketching from the top left of the car so
that my
hand
can rest on the right side, if I started from the right and worked
towards the left I couldn't rest my hand on the paper without smudging the
drawing.
Here
I'm just blocking in everything with tone, if I see dark tones, in they go
and the same with middle tones, the lights I'm not too bothered about
because I can lift out the charcoal with a putty rubber or put them in with
white pastel. Another option for the lights is to leave white paper but I
find this quite difficult with a medium such as charcoal.
So
far we have done three stages, the first stage was the sketching in with
pencil, the second stage I used charcoal to draw over the pencil lines. The
third stage is the blocking in of both middle and dark tones.
I'm
now using the charcoal pencil to draw in lines where needed to straighten
things up. There is a person in the car but no detail is added
here only a suggestion, the main focus is on the car.

Here I'm using the putty rubber to pull out the light tones of reflected
light which is important as reflected light gives the subject more volume.

Concentrating here in getting the front wheel in perspective, as said
earlier it is foreshortened because of the angle we are looking at it so it
will be an elliptical shape.
