Muhammad
Ali demonstration painting in oils and in this demonstration I misplaced the figures on the
rectangular canvas in that they weren't positioned where I wanted them. They should have been positioned exactly in the centre of the canvas here so I painted over the original lines as you can see here. The margin of error here was only about an inch but that inch counts in the final painting.
Here both figures have roughly been painted in with burnt umber and turpentine.
The shadow tones on Ali (Left) were painted in with the same burnt umber and turpentine leaving the light areas untouched A little ultramarine was added to the mixture for his hair and a lighter colour of this was added to the background.
All the background has roughly been painted in to get all the white canvas covered up and the shorts of cooper (Right) have been added, I also painted in a warm foreground and at this point I don't really know what I'm going to do with the foreground as yet
Skin tones have been laid in on cooper and here I'm trying to capture the action with his left arm up guarding a punch from
Muhammad Ali. I started to paint in Ali's gloves.
Shadows are now painted into coopers face and body leaving the light areas for now.
