 Life drawing in pencil

Life drawing in pencil a demonstration of a quick sketch of the back view of a woman with her arms wrapt around her body. The figure has drapery over her knees so this will be a good exercise in drawing folds.

Life drawing in pencilHere I drew a diagonal line from left to right because this woman is bowing her head slightly forward and then I drew an oval shape for the head through this diagonal. From this I can start drawing her arm and shoulder.

Life drawing in pencilI then started to roughly draw in her features or the placement of them and I highlighted the shoulder with darks setting a point here to work from.

Life drawing in pencilKeeping the pencil moving all the time over the paper I am only just suggesting features and the placement of her hand wrapped around her body.

Life drawing in pencilI'm working slightly darker now keeping check of all the features and a little more work has been added to the hand and torso.

Life drawing in pencilThe silk sheet wrapped around her bottom half has now been added and it is good to get used to drawing in the folds here so that you understand there form and which way they go.

Life drawing in pencilMore detail has been added to her head and her hand is only going to be suggested here because if I were to be too detailed her hand might end up being a bit wooden.

Life drawing in pencilMore form has been added to the silk sheet around her bottom half and concentrating on the folds and the way they go, again if I were to be too detailed here the sheet might end up too wooden. This is only a quick sketch and if I were to draw a more finished figure here the areas that I have only suggested would still be suggested albeit the drawing would be more neater but it's great too be bold now and then and to let yourself go.
