Landscape painting techniques and here is the photo
that I am painting from, a nice simple church scene. Two things here! one the sky hasn't anything in it, no shape only a blue colour so here I need to make some clouds to make it more interesting. The second thing is should I paint in the telegraph pole, see later on.
I
start first drawing in the scene with pencil and notice I haven't placed
the church in the centre of the paper which is the worst thing you could
do, always place your centre of interest just off centre either to the
left or right.
More of the buildings are drawn in and it is always best to find a scene with overlapping planes, here some trees are in front of buildings and some are at the rear thereby giving depth.
Here is the full scene drawn in and notice the large tree on the right, if I were to place another same size tree on the far left it would equalise the two, so never have two trees opposite each other the same size.
I first dowsed the paper with clear water so it is nice and wet, I then mixed a mixture of cerulean and ultramarine blue together and started at the top of the paper and worked down. The wet paint is going to melt down the already wet paper.
All the sky area has been painted in and here I am squeezing the brush with my fingers to get all the water out.
