Landscape
painted in watercolour and here is the photo
that I'm going to paint in watercolour from, a simple coastal scene with a few cottages in the near middle ground.
I first roughly drew in the composition not bothering about being too accurate with actual details but concentrating on the compositional elements like the bay and the placement of the cottages.
I first dampened the sky area with a wash of water then mixed a wash of ultramarine blue and a touch of burnt sienna and starting to lay in a broad wash from the top left to the right and working down. Before the wash dried I cleansed my brush and dried it a little so it was just moist and worked into the wet paint lifting out the paint and at the same time turning my brush to create cloud shapes.
While the sky area was still damp but not soaking wet I painted in the background landscape using the same colours but cooler using more ultramarine blue in the mixture. I also painted in mixtures for the green fields using ultramarine blue and cadmium yellow. I started to paint the roofs of the cottages using burnt sienna and a touch of ultramarine blue.
Once the paint had dried I started painting in darker greens just beneath the blueish
background landscape trying to capture the form of this landscape.
I
painted in more of the roofs and painted in the sides of the cottages
with a cool reflective green colour using ultramarine blue and cadmium yellow with a touch of burnt sienna..
When the foreground green was dry I painted over this green with a darker green to capture the form, if you look at fields you will see areas of dark and light greens and you can capture this with overpainting leaving alone the lighter green areas.
