How to draw with charcoal

How to draw with charcoal and I personally use willow charcoal because it seems to go onto the paper better than vine and it also blends How to draw with charcoalbetter. Charcoal is great for large scale drawings because you can buy it in all its degrees of sizes, thick, thin, long and short so you can use it on its side for broad areas or use the edge of it for more detailed fine work.

A variety of marks used in charcoal drawing ranging from light strokes to more darker ones, its also great for textures whereby leaving some of the underlying surface to show through. Blending with the finger or a stump is another way of achieving textures, an example would be subtle skin tones blending in to each other.

How to draw with charcoalPaper As in paper used for pencils you can also use for charcoal but a grainy paper is preferred because of the variety of textures you can achieve. Again bockinford is the preferred paper that I use but it is best to try different makes to best suit your needs. You don't have to draw on normal white paper, you can also use coloured paper like grey or blue, the colour of brown wrapping paper is also good to draw on with charcoal and on the reverse side is a little grainy which is good for textures.Email me
