How to draw the mouth

How to draw the mouth and here there is subtle shading both around the mouth shape and on the lips themselves. A basic oval shape is drawn in for How to draw the mouththe mouth area and if you notice the shape of a person's mouth that it seems to fit very nicely into an oval shape.

How to draw the mouthWe now start drawing in more of a mouth like shape concentrating on the top lip first and observing the little indentation at the centre of the top lip. We draw in the line dividing the top and bottom lips keeping an eye out for little angles and subtle curves, it is not just a straight line so good observation is needed here.

How to draw the mouthI start drawing in some shading on the top and lower lips keeping an eye on where the light is coming from and in this example it is coming from the front and above and slightly from the left. So the bottom lip will have shadow on it because of the protruding top lip and we have also drawn in a little bit of shading around the lips so that the mouth looks related to other parts of the face.

How to draw the mouthI draw everything in darker now and also try to follow the form of the lips with my pencil strokes, lips aren't flat they curve in and out from the top of the lip to the bottom so you need to follow this form with your strokes. I left a little bit of white paper for the highlight on the bottom lip, there wasn't an highlight in the photograph that I drew from but I cheated a little and as you can see it sets the mouth off more.
