How to draw hair all the information you need to know in how to draw hair |
 | How to draw hair and first we draw an oval shape for the head onto which we are going to draw the hair, this oval shape doesn't have to be too accurate. Drawing hair is like putting a wig onto a manikin and here we are drawing one on our oval shape. | | |
 | We start by drawing in the main shapes of the hair and making sure we get the outline curves and angles right so look out for the largest main shapes. The hair has to look as though its actually part of the head and not something that just looks as though its been put on like a wig so observation is the key here so try to keep all the shapes relative to each other.
 | Inside the hair shape are other smaller shapes which show contours where the light hits it, these are important areas if you want to make the hair look like real hair.
 | Now we come to the shading of the hair which shows the form of it, this is a different type of shading to the normal sort of shading in that we are following the form of the hair with our pencil strokes and not using diagonal shading to show the form. If hair strands seem to go up vertically we draw in these vertical lines with our pencil strokes to show this form, if the hair curves to the left we follow this form with our pencil strokes.
 | Now we come to a finish in this how to draw hair tutorial by making the hair stand out more by leaving the white paper for the highlights and drawing in medium and darker tones for variety and to show volume and depth. As in any type of drawing good observation is the key. |
