How to draw ears lots of information in how to draw ears
If you can imagine an heart shape then half of this heart shape corresponds to the shape of the ear. Lightly put this shape in with your pencil it doesn't need to be exact at this time because you can work into it later.
Other complex looking shapes will be drawn inside the ear so you need to be very careful and to observe the shapes here. Now to add other shapes inside the ear, the inner line shape which follows the contour of the original line we put in doesn't follow it exactly. Look out for subtle different angles and curves here, you need to see exactly what's going on in and around this shape and obviously every ear is different so shapes will differ. Pick out the hollow circular shape inside the ear keeping aware of the distance from the top to the bottom of the ear.
We can get on with the shading now and carefully observing what's going on in and around the ear like the highlights which are left as white paper and the intricate little shadows which describe the shapes of the ear.
As in the other features of the face in this last stage everything is made darker to bring the ear out to us so the highlights will make more of an impact. A dark accent is put inside the cavity of the ear and a little dark accent under the ear where it meets the neck. The best way to finish drawing an ear is to use line so pick out darker lines and leave some lines lighter, don't draw all the lines the same tone otherwise it will look like the ear as been cut out of a newspaper. Variety of line is the key here, darker and lighter lines, longer and shorter lines, thick and thin lines.
In this last stage we have refined the shape of the ear more and we have also drawn in even more darker darks where they belong like inside and underneath the ear.
