Highlights have been added to the necklace and as you can see here they have only been suggested because on the photo you couldn't see that much detail. Notice that the necklace wraps itself around her majesty's neck sympathetically and not squarely.
Highlights have been added to the eyes and more detail and form have been painted in around them.
Each eye has a main highlight and a secondary highlight and the secondary highlight or you can call it reflected light has been made fainter so as not to over power the main highlights.
Here I am using a pastel pencil to draw in line and define certain areas that need to be brought out a little.
The badge has been painted in with some detail although not too much.
Here is the finished portrait and everything has been painted in with more definition now and although I am not in favour of using photo editing software to manipulate works of art, I thought I would show you how important a background is to a painting. Here I got rid of the background I painted in just to show you how important a coloured background is to a painting. With a coloured background her majesty's dress has contrast in both colour and tone whereas using a white background there is no contrast and her majesty looks isolated. I hope you have enjoyed this demonstration.
