Drawing the human information for you in drawing the human figure

Drawing the human figure is extremely difficult for the novice and even for an experienced artist's like myself but with a little bit of persistence you can draw the human figure successfully. This drawing was done in a sketchy manner and which only took around half an hour to do and if you want to have a go at drawing this figure, right click the picture and click save picture as and save it to a folder on your hard drive, don't forget where you saved your picture.

Drawing of the human figureHere is the photograph that we are going to draw from, it isn't a particular good photo but I can cope with that and it was the pose that really struck me here. The first thing to notice in drawing the human figure is the pose, what is it that stands out and catches your eye. Here the torso is hunched forward slightly as though she is straightening her back but also the hands behind her head as something do do with this.

Drawing the human figure

I first drew a line straight down the centre of her torso to get the movement of this forward thrust, I then drew a short line from the torso line to indicate her left arm held upwards and lines were drawn in for her legs, all these lines are drawn in through the middle of there parts, (body, arms and legs) to suggest there movements.

From these lines I started on the head drawing it in a sketchy manner and trying to find the forms of the face without being too detailed.

More lines are added here and I was also trying to find the relationships between the parts of her body and head using a pencil to find distances and angles. Moving down to her breasts I drew in a diagonal line to indicate their angle.
Drawing the human figure

Carrying on down to her torso and legs and being fairly bold with my lines here it is important to get the width and length of the legs right in relationship to her torso especially the right leg where it it foreshortened.

Back up to the head now and always looking at the photo and then back again at my drawing trying to find the form and what I want to put in and what I want to leave out. You might see various lines on the outline of her body here and these lines are where I'm trying to find the form with my pencil and it is best not to rub these lines out because they will add character to your sketch.
