Drawing teeth
in pencil and here light and shade is very important and the
placement of highlights if any is crucial in making sure that the lips are three dimensional. Here I just started using ordinary diagonal shading working from the top lip and following this shading through to the left side of the teeth.
Observe each tooth individually for the light and shade, here you can see that shadow is at the left of each tooth and so light is at the right side. Also observe the darker shading at the bottom edge of the top lip, this gives the top lip a three dimensional feel.
Here I am using directional shading whereby my pencil strokes follow the form of the bottom lip so the strokes go from the top of the bottom lip around to the bottom of the lip in a curve. I could have also used diagonal shading from right to left but here I wanted to show you that there are different ways that you can express the features.
The darker gaps in the teeth have been added here aswell has accents and now each tooth really stands out from its neighbour. Notice that some gaps in the teeth are vertical and some more diagonal, these differences show the character of each tooth and hence the person's character. I hope you have enjoyed this short tutorial.
