Drawing papers and textures like bockingford papers come in different sizes,
textures and colours which are used mainly for charcoal, pastel and
watercolour. Plain cartridge paper is ideal for any type of drawing work and is both cheap
and easy to purchase, you can buy this paper in different degrees of
textures although the actual paper is still quite thin compared to Bockingford.
You can work in pencil on bockingford as you can on other charcoal or
pastel papers and which again give you a very different effect but it is best toexperiment with different papers to find the one you like best and then stick with it.
If money is tight then you can draw on the back of wallpaper, the back of bills and letters, I used to draw on cardboard boxes with charcoal and pastels when I first started out in the art world.
You can use brown paper that you use for wrapping parcels up and if you look
closely on brown paper it has a slight texture which is great, you can also
use oils and acrylics on this type of paper.
There are many different makes of paper on the market but they all more or
less do the same thing and that is they give you a texture. I have used
plenty of different kinds of paper, bockingford, fabriano, ingres and a few
more with the same weight and
poundage and I can hardly tell the difference between them all. You can buy
pads or you can buy single sheets which works out cheaper.
