Colour drawing with pencil and
here an highlight has been added to the right eye and you could either leave white paper for the highlight or dab it in with a pure white pastel like I have here. If you can also get both highlights in the first time so that they look harmonised and natural all the better.
The collar
has roughly been sketched in because I don't want detail here, after all the main focus of attention should be her face and not the collar so it is a good idea sometimes to leave areas sketchy so as not to draw attention.
Here more of the ribbon frills down the side of her hair have been resolved a bit more although I want this area also to be sketchy.
Here
is the finished sketch in coloured pencils and I hope you can see that attention is brought to the girls face and everything else is just suggested. This is just one way to draw a portrait and here I could have gone in with great detail and neatness in this portrait but I opted for a sketch, why! because I think some people look best done in a sketchy way especially children. We hope you have enjoyed this colour drawing in pencil tutorial.
