Colour control and it is all about colour as well as water control and
here the same dark tone for his beard was painted underneath his nose and it is a
good
idea
to keep colours throughout the portrait related. Notice the areas of
bare white paper, these are the highlights.

Darker areas for the eyes goe in aswell as the lips which are made up of
cadmium red a touch of yellow ochre and ultramarine blue.

Background colours go in here, make good use of what you see in backgrounds. The raw sienna
has ballooned out into the almost dry ultramarine blue this is because the
blue had almost dried but I'm not really bothered about this because I can
scrub the colour with a new colour and it will be fine as you will see.

The hair goes in here with a mixture of ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and a
touch of alizarin.

The first layer of the hair is just about finished here and notice the tone
just beneath the fringe of the hair which was put in wet in wet. Also notice the
right background area which look fine now, remember the ballooning!

More form is added to the hair and the beard is put in darker.
