Colour and tone in portraiture and here I am starting to paint in the hair and the base of her crown and notice the cool medium blue colour in her hair shadow, later this will be painted over with darker browns and darker blues. Everything has been more defined now like her mouth, eyes and nose.
I roughly painted in the earrings with pure white and started to paint in the neck area and chest with warm reds. A cool cerulean blue has been painted into the background.
Work on the crown has now begun and in the photograph it wasn't really clear so it will be more of a suggestion than painting it in detail.
To align the circles of the crown with the features of the face I use a vertical pencil and holding it to the side of one of the circles on the crown you can align it with the features of the face.
Here I am ending this section of the portrait with more detail and colour.
More of the crown as now been painted and here it is important to make sure that the crown sits onto the head comfortably and that it looks like it is resting on the head and not laying horizontally.
