The brush with fame competition which Roger participated in on ITV television a few years ago. Here Roger is seen with Christian Furr
(Right) who was one of the judges and who also was commissioned to paint
her majesty the Queen. Carol Smiley introduced the programme (below).
Roger says I didn't do that well in the competition because when we had
to draw the subjects I was always placed right at the back of other
artists, I was around 10 metres away from the subject so I could only
give an impression of the sitter. The portrait that won was all in
glorious detail which I would have liked to have done if only I was closer to the subject.
Roger says that I wouldn't enter a competition again because it is too
unfair, there were many artists who in previous rounds did brilliant
work but like me they were placed right at the back in later rounds and almost gave up trying to even see the subject, but there ya go.
Carol
smiley was the presenter of the programme and as I was drawing at the
easel she was walking aside of me and has she was passing I said to her, Hi Carol! she
gave me such a stare as though I were a stalker or something, must have
made her jump! I met some great artists there and some of there work was
really good and the winner's portrait was a real gem of a portrait with good colour and
tones and I hope she managed to get further up in her career as an artist.
Email me even if its just for a chat I reply to you within the hour.
